This past weekend i attended a CHURCH competition with my kids drama team at my church. All of the kids had a great time, and so did I. They preformed flawlessly in my eyes, and I could not be any prouder. :) Unfortunately they did not place in either category that they were entered in. That is ok though because we were not there to win, we were there to have fun, and we achieved that goal. HOWEVER, we started looking at the winners of the categories, we saw both of those groups preform, and the group that got runner up had there faces completely covered in face make-up. **When you turn in your reregistration form you are told that you NEED to purchase a rulebook.** So we purchased one for the Teen division and for the Jr. division. For a couple of weeks that was our "bible." I read through it several times, especially the drama division, and there were several things highlighted in BOLD PRINT The one i remember the most was " NO MAKE-UP is to be worn by any of the participants, except in the MIME category" Well they were not in the Mime category.
The more and more i thought about this the more and more it bothered me. Eventually i could not take it anymore, i got the book and read it again. It CLEARLY states no make-up. So i decided to call the state office about this because if we are gonna pay almost $50.00 for a rulebook then i think that the rules in it should be FOLLOWED.
Well i called, the only thing that they had to tell me was that EVERYTHING was left up to the Judges...now that makes no sense to me. I really REALLY REALLY wanted to tell her exactly what i thought about that, but i didn't, i just bit my tounge and said "thanks."
I do not believe that this is the least bit fair, if everything is left up to what the judges like then there should be NO rulebook that is RECOMMENDED to be purchased. The registration fee is already $50.00 for every category entered, surely they don't need more money.
I just feel like there should be a better process, but i don't plan to push the issue.
We went to have fun and to show people what talent that God has blessed the Children at Caffee Junction with and we SUCCEEDED. :)
